Congratulations, Kathy. :)
I've been working hard at that.  I only have ONE small bag of garbage every two weeks (shopping bag size), and I recycle just about everything else.

I'm also trying to avoid buying things that have a lot of packaging.  I think we still have a lot of work to do on that.  Not us necessarily, but the people who supply the goods to the stores.  I think some packaging is just way too much.  Too much waste.

Hi Kathy, anytime you can reuse, reduce, and recycle it's a good thing.  It's what people used to do before we became a throw-away society.  I didn't know there was a national awareness week for this purpose, thanks for sharing.

Kathy, these are impressive statistics. I would like to see what our area stats are. Congrats on Durham Region homeowners in Uxbridge for their proactive stance!

Sylvie - we actually recycle most of the green bin right here at home a very small amount actually goes in the bin ... our garbage pail feels empty most of the time now and our large blue box is always full ... if only we could cut down on the amount of packaged goods ... maybe if we all started leaving the packaging at the store for them to dispose of they may pressure their suppliers to cut down.
